World Could Potentially Survive on Organic Products Alone

Due to the potential health ailments that can come with ingesting unnecessary pesticides, hormones, and other chemicals, many people today are trending away from traditional crops to consume only those that are certified organic. While many agree that organic crops are healthier and pose less health risks, the amount of crops grown per acre tend to be up to 20% less than traditional crops. This has led many to wonder whether the world could survive if all farmers started growing crops organically, especially considering the expected population growth in the next 50 years.

According to a recent study and news article (https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2016/aug/14/organic-farming-agriculture-world-hunger), it is certainly possible that the world could survive on only organic crops. Earlier in 2016 researchers completed a variety of models that predicted 500 different food production scenarios and compared them to food needs in the year 2050, which assumed nearly 10 billion in global population.

The models predicted that with near certainty that full organic farming would be sufficient if all people followed a vegan lifestyle. If all people followed a vegetarian diet, than there is a 94% chance that organic farming would be sufficient. However, if people continued to eat high levels of meat then the chances of success are far less. The reasoning for this is due to the considerable amount of grain and corn that farm animals consume on a regular basis.

While organic farming may not produce the same quantity of food when compared to traditional farming, there are some advantages that come with organic farming. One advantage is that organic farming tends to be better on the soil. This means that soil over time will be more productive and over the course of several decades, this could lead to much higher levels of efficiency. Further, a considerable amount of energy goes into the production of chemicals, which will no longer be necessary.

Due to studies such as these, it is likely that the consumption of organic products will continue to grow in the coming years. Today, less than three percent of all produce is organically grown.

Whitney Wolfe Wants To Change Online Dating

Whitney Wolfe has plenty of experience with online dating. She was one of the first developers to work on popular dating app Tinder, but she was disappointed by the culture of Tinder. Apparently, sexual harassment is a big issue at Tinder and Wolfe wanted to create a way for women to distance themselves from that online. She came up with the idea of Bumble. Separating itself from the dating app Tinder, Bumble requires women to make the first move in all heterosexual encounters.

How People Are Responding

Bumble was launched in 2014 but it’s already gathered a lot of support for its unique approach to the world of online dating. Instead of dealing with the frequent spambots found on online dating sites, men on Bumble know that the women they message already have a legit interest in them. The women enjoy the app because the app prevents much of the sexual harassment commonly found in online dating. Harassers are seldom able to harass because they must first have women display an interest in them before they can move forward. There isn’t much data on online sexual harassment but it seems as if it’s a rare find on Bumble.

The Impact Of Bumble

Bumble is starting to have an impact on online dating. Whitney Wolfe may have wanted to simply take away from the steam of Tinder, but she’s done so much more. She has created a paradigm shift towards a more comfortable internet and a way to counteract the frequent harassment seen on the internet. Online dating is just one domain, but her work is certainly going to take off. We will eventually see this work take off as more dating apps focus on creating friendlier environments for women.

Yanni Hufnagel- Making His Way in the College Coaching World

Surviving in coaching, specifically college athletics, can be a challenging task. Everyone wants to win and often the first sign of losing is an exit ticket out a program. Yanni Hufnagel is a passionate young coach that has managed to beat the odds. The assistant coach at Harvard University, Yanni Hufnagel has built quite a coaching resume. With stops at the Univeristy California Golden Bears, Vanderbilt Commodores and Harvard Crimson Hufnagel has earned his stripes in the coaching world. Today he is regarded as one of the top recruiters in college basketball.

Hufnagel has realized that to be an assistant coach in college basketball is to be a recruiter. Speaking with writer Ben Z. Cohen he recently shared his thoughts about recruiting and much more. In the article Cohen mentions how Duke assistant Jeff Capel praises Hufnagel as a recruiter. Capel,, said there are two things about Hufnagel that make him one of the best recruiters in the game. Number one is his chutzpah. He’s not afraid to go after a kid who might say no. Number two is he is an excellent salesman. ESPN’s Seth Greenberg even praised him saying “It’s hard not to like Yanni Hufnagel.”

Yanni Hufnagel has worked under Duke graduate Tommy Amaker for more than seven seasons now. With his talent, it is hard to imagine Hufnagel not making it as a head coach at some point. Betsy DeVos Looks For Community Involvement In Many Different Areas

In my lifetime, I have come across Betsy DeVos only in print and on the TV, but I have always been impressed with the way she has divided her time between creating greater levels of success for her own family and the many different communities she has come into contact with over the years. In my opinion Betsy DeVos should be applauded for the many different areas of work she has completed for the people of Michigan and across the U.S.; I initially came across Betsy DeVos when she was looking to bring school choice and school voucher programs to the Florida area where her  helped assist in the passage of one of he biggest education reform programs in history.

Millions of people have benefited from the success of Mrs. DeVos in crossing party lines with national and state legislative bodies, which is one of the reasons why I find it so difficult to understand the hysterical reaction of many towards her good works. Betsy DeVos has been an individual I have always looked at for guidance over how best to educate children from socially disadvantaged communities; the fact the majority within minority groups support Mrs. DeVos’ plans with school choice and voucher systems is often ignored in the rush to back an outdated union based education system that still helps create the system our children are educated within. Check this related article from NYPost.com

I consistently feel Mrs. DeVos has the best interests of the community at heart when she sets out on a new cause; Betsy DeVos has impressed me with her decision to use her own funds to support marketing campaigns to make sure the vast majority are made aware of school choice and voucher program deadlines. The political influence of Betsy DeVos is well known and includes the fact she and husband, Dick provided around $5 million to political causes in 2015, a figure I was shocked to discover was dwarfed by the more than $11 million given to charitable causes over the same year.

As major donors to the Republican party in Michigan and beyond the DeVos family have a large sphere of influence on a national level. Betsy DeVos has been shown to keep the majority of her giving in the Michigan area as she looks to aid the West Michigan Aviation Academy she founded with husband Dick, and assist young people through donations to education and faith based groups. I have never felt Betsy is one to work on a small scale and looked to international groups to provide scholarships to aid in providing a business based education for young people looking to take their skills back to developing nations to provide an economic boost to their local economy.

The Kabbalah Centre in LA Opens Its Doors Far and Wide

A not-for-profit organization headquartered in Los Angeles, California, the Kabbalah Centre opened its doors in that city in 1984. Prior to its establishment in Los Angeles, the Kabbalah Centre was run out of New York City, beginning in 1965. While in New York City, the precursor to the Los Angeles center was called The National Research Institute of Kabbalah.

Prior to its establishment in New York City, what became known as the Kabbalah Centre was an outgrowth of the YeshivahKol Yehuda in Israel. The YeshivahKol Yehuda actually predates the Jewish state and was founded in 1922. The U.S. derivation was the brainchild of Rav Philip Berg and Rav Yehuda TzviBrandwein.

Since the doors opened to the Los Angeles Kabbalah Centre, the organization experienced significant growth. This includes the creation of over 50 branches located worldwide. In addition, a significant number of Kabbalah Centre are in place, also internationally. Finally, the teachings and practices of the Kabbalah Centre can be accessed online.

Celebrities have been associated with the Kabbalah Centre in its different U.S. incarnations. This includes such Hollywood stars as Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Sammy Davis, Jr.

In today’s world, iconic singer Madonna is probably the best known celebrity to be attracted to the Kabbalah Centre. She is responsible for establishing satellite centers in different locations.

Paris Hilton and Sandra Bernhard are two other celebrities that are associated with the Los Angeles Kabbalah Centre. Hilton maintains that the Kabbalah Centre has allowed her to enjoy tranquility even during challenging times in her life.

The Kabbalah Centre in LA departs somewhat from traditional practices. The Kabbalah Centre does not require a person to have a background in Hebrew or Jewish writings before starting a course of study with the organization. This unique practice of the Kabbalah Centre has opened the doors to Kabbalah practices to a broader spectrum of men and women, from all walks of life.

Big Climate Change For Nut Lovers Coming To California

Big change is on the way. The nation’s climate has been changing for the worst, according to the NPR. California holds the monopoly on growing pistachios and almonds. California grows 99% of America’s pistachios and 100% of the nation’s almonds and according to NPR those amounts that are grown every year are in danger of being seriously cut down.

For these nuts to successfully grow every year, the trees need “chill hours” or in non agricultural speak, the trees need a certain number of cold hours to reset for the next growing year. This process requires the winter months to reach a range of freezing to 45 degrees for an extended time, so that the tree goes dormant in preparation for budding of the flowers the next spring.

Studies have found that this process is becoming incomplete for up to 50% of the whole harvest in some farming areas, which means a drastic drop in nut production. This warming trend has been happening for the past four years and according to studies the pistachio and almond crops may be on their way out of certain areas in California for good as soon as the middle or end of this century.

Agricultural experts stated that these types of crops may have to move north to maintain their current output. With warmer weather settling in year after year, farmers may have to move their entire operations north or switch to a different kind of crop, such as tomatoes, which thrive in warmer fall weather.

You can’t help but feel concern for the nut farmers as this has been their way of life for many generations. It would cost money to move their whole operation further north, but what choice do they have? Move north and continue farming the same crop on which they know the yield and market prices or switch to a whole different crop with an unknown yield and the hopes of making the same amount of money. In plain English, global warming sucks for the farmers growing the crops and the consumers who will experience a shortage and end up paying more for less.

Agriculture Department Set to Reopen Some its Offices After Closure

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has decided to open the offices it had closed as a result of anonymous email threats. Through its spokesman Mathew Herrick, the department said that it would reopen its offices in Colorado, West Virginia, Kearneysville and North Carolina before Friday to allow resumption of normal operations. Following the Monday email threats, the offices will now have additional security measures put in place 24/7. However, other offices in Hamden, Connecticut, and Leetown will remain closed until effective security solutions are put into place.

A lot of facilities had been affected by the email threat. Even the USDA agencies such as the Food Safety and Inspection Service and Forest Service were closed. Its sprawling research center in Maryland was also not spared in the process. Employees were told to go home after the threat emails were received on late Monday. Through a memo circulated in the company’s intranet, the employees had been told to wait for security improvements and notification from the officials on when to resume work.

The White House together with the Department of Homeland Security is working on the case to ensure all the USDA offices get adequate security. The White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that the department has already made a significant progress to ensure its facilities and workforce are protected. Officials remain adamant that other facilities will reopen soon.

Apparently, the email came from one source and was sent to several employees from different offices of the department in five states. The department is also working with the FBI to determine the source of the email and gauge whether it is real or not. Various sources reveal that the closure might have affected tourism in Colorado. Tourists usually throng the Canyon Lakes Ranger District, which is controlled by the Forest Service. Many people think that this was just a mild form of bluffing from cyber criminals. Many are hoping everything will be back to normal soon
