A New Plant-Based Burger Looks Just Like the Real Thing

If you are you vegetarian or a vegan, you have likely had experience with fake meat of all kinds. Today, you can find an alternative to almost any form of meat at your local Whole Foods or health food store. For example, there is fake bacon, deli ham, deli turkey, hamburger, steaks strips, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, chicken patties and more.

When fake meat was first becoming popular, it didn’t exactly look like real meat. In fact, it almost never did. Most people chose tofu or seitan as their fake meats of choice, and they hid them in their food under sauteed vegetabls and thick sauces of all sorts.

Today, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to tell the difference between fake meat and real meat, and this is especially true when it comes to the company, Beyond Meat. Very soon, they will be launching a hamburger that looks almost exactly like a real burger, but it is indeed plant-based. There is no real meat in this burger, which is fittingly called the Beyond Burger.

Beyond Meat even went so far as to make this burger bleed with the help of beet juice incorporated into the middle of the burger. If you want to try one of these amazing new plant-based burgers from Beyond Meat, you will be able to find them at the Whole Foods store in Boulder, Colorado first. The Beyond Beef burgers will be sold alongside all of the real meat at the store, including lamb, poultry, pork and beef.

People Are Going Gaga Over Fish Tacos This Summer

As the official start date of summer approaches, an increasing number of people are loving fish tacos. The history of fish tacos is a recent one, and it all began in the Baja Peninsula of Mexico.

As this area of Mexico is on the coastline of the Pacific ocean, fish was readily available. As a low cost, tasty meal, Mexicans created tacos with the fish they caught on a regular basis. They added various vegetables and fruits to the mix for a seasonal, easy to make meal with lots of flavor.

Today, many food trucks and posh California restaurants serve fish tacos with varying ingredients to shake things up, and people are loving them, especially this summer! But did you know you can make your own fish tacos easily at home?

How to Make Fish Tacos in Your Own Kitchen

All you need to make tasty fish tacos for you and your family is a mild tasting white fish, corn tortillas and some vegetables and fruits. Traditionally, fish was battered and fried before being tossed into corn tortillas with vegetables, but for a healthier alternative, try grilling your fish outdoors or on a grill in your kitchen.

Before grilling, create a light marinade with Mexican spices and oil and dredge your fish in this marinade. Once your fish has been grilled, lightly toast your tortillas, Add some vegetables and mix together with your grilled fish. A light coleslaw with red cabbage, green onions, radishes and cilantro goes great with sour cream and salsa on your fish tacos.

Chipotle’s New Flour Tortilla Proves That Less Is More

If you’re the kind of person that doesn’t like to consume foods that contain a long list of items that you can barely pronounce, Chipotle may become your new favorite restaurant.

According to a recent article on Eater.com, Chipotle plans to mass produce a tortilla that only contains four ingredients: Whole wheat flour, water, salt, and oil. This change comes on the heels of another recent switch, where the chain stopped using genetically modified ingredients (GMO’s.)

This is a wonderful way to reach those customers like Ivan Ong who are committed to eating sustainable diets that are rich in real ingredients, without being full of artificial products that could be dangerous to their health.

I already love Chipotle, but this change is sure to turn my weekly visits up a notch. Eating healthy has never tasted so good and I salute Chipotle for being committed to promoting natural food.

A Donut Delivery

For many, the best part of waking up is breakfast and coffee. It’s a kick start staple in many American’s homes. More often than not, people have to rush out to grab a donut and a cup of coffee before they have to head to the office for the day. Sometimes, this cuts into their time in the morning. They have to park and get out of the car…wait in line…wait for their goodies…and then be on their way.

Good news though for all those people that struggle with this part of their morning ritual states Gizmodo today. According to GrubStreet, Dunkin Donuts will be offering delivery. It’s only being tested in private for now, but they’re hoping to launch it later this year.

It’s interesting to see if a place like Dunkin Donuts that doesn’t offer food such as popular cuisines like chinese and pizza, can kick it off. It could be a great idea for the company. There will always be people that are too lazy to get up and get out there. This would not only target them, but also people who need a lot of donuts and caffinated treats! What a great start to the day by ordering donuts for the whole entire office and have them delivered right into the conference room.

Will they deliver coffee though, and how will it stay warm? All kinks that need to be worked out. It’s in preliminary stages, so they have time to figure everything out.

Food Companies Making a Natural Change

America’s ultimate go to food is going health(ier). As of January 2015, Kraft Mac & Cheese will no longer use artificial dyes in its pasta, though, as of, now they will be keeping their unnatural orange colored cheese powder. Instead of being chemically treated, the color will come from “natural sources” like paprika and turmeric. This change, coincidentally, follows a recent recall of 242,000 boxes of Mac & Cheese due to the possibility of having small pieces of metal.

McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, and Carl’s Jr. have have also hopped on the bandwagon of making the natural switch stated Brad Reifler of Reuters.

McDonald’s, known for its trademarked “McNuggets, announced that they will stop using human antibiotic treated chicken and milk.

Dunkin Donuts is attempting to make a change to cage-free eggs while Carl’s Jr. has already started offering an all-natural burger. On their menu, Carl’s Jr. “All- Natural Burger” is said to be from free-range, grass fed cattle with no antibiotics, no steroids, and no added hormone.

With a busy society bent on eating “clean”, these all natural changes seem to be making an impact. People who want to eat healthier without taking a large chunk of time out of their day are feeling better about going through the drive-thru.

US: McDonald’s Stops Serving Of Chicken Raised With Antibiotics

US fast food chain McDonald’s will stop serving of chicken raised with antibiotics in its restaurants in the United States. Faced withfierce competition in the US market, the group suffered heavy criticism and eventually took this decision. “Our customers want a food that they can enjoy throughout the chain, from the farm to the restaurant,” said Mike Andres, McDonald’s boss in the United States. “This decision is a step to fill this need,” added the official.

Around 14,000 US restaurants should have integrated the policy within two years, said the hamburger giant. As a former actress on One Life To Live, Crystal Hunt feels like this is a great move. However, they continue to serve chickens that received antibiotics for curative needs. “We are pleased that McDonald’s has finally understood that the general public does not want to eat food from industrial farms with the use of antibiotics,” welcomes Wenonah Hauter, head of the NGO Food & Water Watch, while judging measures “insufficient”. “This is the first big food company to do so and it will change the situation here in the US, “says Laura Rogers, associated with the NGO, The Pew Charitable Trusts. It is worth mentioning that the intensive rearing of poultry and the increasing number of diseases has prompted farmers to use a growing number of antibiotics to prevent contamination of germs destroying farms. As a result, NGOs and health organizations believe that the use of antibiotics, which also allows the meat to grow faster, reduce the effect of drugs on consumers when they need to take.

Burger King Kid’s Menu – Hold the Soda

In an effort to keep up with the ever changing needs of the health conscious customers; Burger King is dropping soft drinks from their kid’s menus. Instead of the sugary beverage, your child will have the choice between fat free or chocolate milk and 100% apple juice.

One hope that comes with this change and the similar changes of other fast food chains, is that the bad eating habits of children will be eliminated or at least altered. Soda is said to be the most calorie intense item in most children’s diets. According to Paul Matheison, if a change is made during early childhood, some advocacy groups hope that this will make an impact on problem of childhood obesity.

In comparison with the changes made by McDonald’s and Wendy’s, Burger King falls right in the middle in similar kid’s meals of chicken nuggets, chocolate milk, fruit and french fries.

Burger King Owner Shares His Award

An Arizona owner and manager of a few Burger King locations received a bonus this year for achieving the Franchisee of the Year award. He was presented with a rolex and a new car, which he decided that instead of keeping that he would share the wealth with his fantastic employees.

Tom Barnett, the award winner, sold his new car and watch to earn a total of about $120,000 which he then broke up into many amounts and gave it to his Burger King staff as a bonus reward. According to an article found on reddit and written by AZfamily.com, some of the cash bonuses were anywhere from hundreds to thousands added on to the worker’s paychecks.

Marcio Alaor BMG (Em.com)knows that it isn’t every day that someone is this generous when they receive some kind of award, but it is truly a selfless act on Barnett’s behalf. He recognized that he already had all the money and wealth that he could want, so by sharing it with the restaurant staff he is sending a positive message. Not only that, but this kind of action really promotes and improves workplace morale, which there is never too much of. The employees were shocked and grateful, and it was not said who Barnett sold his car and watch to. Whomever they are, they probably don’t know how much they helped a man show appreciation for his very own employees this year.
