The Brazilian law has its origin from the Roman law which was executed by the Portuguese during the colonial period. The Brazilian Tribunals and Courts

The federal Supreme Court is the highest court in Brazil. It is assigned with the obligation to safeguard the constitution and review it. Eleven justices of over thirty-five and below sixty-five years of age are chosen among citizens and appointed by the president.

It is composed of at least thirty-three justices chosen by the Brazilian citizens. After they have been selected by the majority of the federal system, the president then appoints them. It considers infra-constitutional issues that are not directly related to the constitution. The superior tribunal of justice took jurisdiction in the analysis and approval of foreign decision in the year 2004.

The federal justice is composed of federal courts and Regional Tribunals. They hear cases against federal judges whenever they are involved in ordinary criminal cases. They hear cases of conflicts of among judges subordinated to the Federal Regional Tribunal.
