Born in West Germany, Andy Wirth tried the industry when he was still pursuing education at the Edinburgh University, Scotland. In this period, he earned experience working as a ranger at the Rocky Mountain Parks.
He also worked at San Pedro Parks. Among his recent achievements, Andy Wirth was preferred by the Reno-Tahoe Regional Air Service Corporation, which appointed him the President and Chairman.
Contribution at Stemboat/Intrawest
Having completed his college education, Andy Wirth went on a mission to search for experience and additional skills in his area of operation. He began with joining Steamboat Ski in 1986 for an internship that saw him secure a job in the same company.
Several years later, his career grew further when he was given a promotion to be the chief marketing officer of Intrawest, which had just acquired Steamboat in 2006.
His role in this position entailed the management of global and domestic marketing operations and coming up with strategies for all the resorts under the company.
He would also help in the running of the Mountain Village Partnership whose aim was to assist local businesses to grow. He remained in the company until 2010 when he made another leap that elevated his career further.
Career and contribution at Squaw Valley
Andy Wirth came in as a new dawn to Squaw Valley, which had been in the hands of the Cushing family for almost 70 years.
He took over as CEO from Nancy Cushing, who had served in the position for 16 years. When Andy Wirth joined the company, he came in with some ambitious ideas that would help to transform Squaw Valley.
His first project included making upgrades totaling $70 million. This budget went to refurbishing the culinary areas, overall appearance of the resort and lodging facilities among other areas that would transform the resort to match the competition in the industry.
Owing to these changes, Squaw Valley Ski, for the first time, appeared among the top 20 percent resorts in the region. The company has also expanded through acquisitions and mergers due to the good management it is enjoying.
