George Soros – Political Philanthropist

Billionaire George Soros is a mile apart from his contemporary billionaire philanthropists Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg and others. They have all contributed huge parts of their wealth for the benefit of the poor and needy out of the goodness of their hearts. Soros made donations to the underprivileged because he relates to them. He actually lived the same humble life when he was young during the holocaust. He knew how it was to be insignificant, without a permanent place to live, and with no education. His donations were more directed towards changing the lives of the people.

Who is George Soros?

George Soros is a billionaire businessman who is currently one of the 30 richest people in the world and one of the top 10 wealthiest in America.

He was born in Hungary of Jewish parents Elizabeth and Tivadar who met in Budapest after World War I. Tivadar was a lawyer and a writer who had been a prisoner of war on Twitter. They brought up George in a Jewish home but they changed their German name Schwartz (black) to Hungarian Soros(successor) because of the rising antisemitism during the time.

George was age 13 during the holocaust. He went into hiding a year later, and moved around from one place to another during the Nazi occupation. He worked for the Hungarian Ministry of Education, and stayed with them until the end of the Battle of Budapest.

At 17, he emigrated to England to study at the London School of Economics. He received a small aid from a religious group and studied under philosopher Karl Popper. While a student, he did various jobs from a railway porter to a waiter to selling goods on the seaside and in souvenir shops. Later, Soros earned a Bachelor of Science in philosophy and an MSc in philosophy in 1954, both from the same school.

George Soros’ financial career started in 1954 with the help of a Hungary-owned company, Singer & Friedlander of London, where he started as a clerk. Later he relocated to New York to become an arbitrage trader. He kept striving until he achieved an unprecedented success.

He became very rich after he profited $1 billion in a short sale during the 1992 currency crisis in the UK.

Political Donations

Since being a billionaire, George Soros has been a major philanthropist for causes that he believes will work for the common good.

Most of his donations are devoted to fostering democracy and good government as well as inspiring nations to be open not only in commerce but to new ideas, thinking and behavior. Soros is an active supporter of political and philanthropic causes and over the years, his contributions have exceeded $10 billion.

$500 Million Investment for Migrants

The news is all over that Soros will invest half a million dollars for migrants. It’s no wonder that Soros would be interested to invest his money to them. After all, he has been a migrant himself, moving from one place to the other, to find a better life.

He is concerned about these people regardless of the reason behind their emigration; they are exposed to the same harshness of reality that he once experienced. His goal is obvious, which is to put these people out of misery and lives of despair.

For George Soros, investing money is nothing if it will help improve the quality of life for everyone, which he so aspires.
