Ubuntu Educational Fund is a nonprofit that is dedicated to helping the underprivileged children of South Africa’s Port Elizabeth townships achieve an education that will propel them into successful lives and careers. One of the leaders of the nonprofit is Andrew Rolfe who serves as the Chairman of the Board of the fund in a noble effort to help the charity meet its goal of helping poor African children. The Ubuntu Educational Fund has two other focuses besides education which are social welfare and healthcare, goals that Andrew Rolfe is well suited for.
The Founder and CEO of Ubuntu Educational Fund, Jacob Lief, recently detailed how he quit raising money from wealthy individuals. The problem, he said, was that they typically attached so many strings to what they gave that the nonprofit was hobbled and ineffective. He decided that those type of people weren’t worth his charity’s time and in fact were detrimental to what they were trying to achieve, a sentiment that Andrew Rolfe agreed with. Now, the company instead works with smaller donors who allow the company to efficiently and effectively do what they designed as their mission to accomplish which is to truly help disadvantaged children in this African region.
Part of the problem in relying on wealthy people and their attached strings is that they don’t focus on the nuts and bolts of running a successful charity. As Andrew Rolfe has pointed out developing effective IT systems, training staff, and other mundane parts of a charity aren’t sexy enough for many wealthy individuals yet it’s these exact business practices that result in a nonprofit effectively meeting the needs of the community it wants to serve.
As a business leader, Andrew Rolfe brings a lot of experience and specialties to the Ubuntu Educational Fund. He knows how to accomplish goals effectively and build a management team that can effectively work together and make a difference in the community that it serves. Andrew Rolfe is both proud and humbled to help children in South Africa and is committed to making a positive difference in their lives.
