30 under 30 is a platform that brings entrepreneurs from different fields together to gauge their strengths. 2018 30 under 30 nominees 600 are selected from over 15,000 youths who either were proposed or applied. The young stars will showcase their skills and talents based on 20 industries. This program has been happening annually for the last seven years and the no repeat policy has made it possible for different individuals to surface in every episode.
The idea was inspired by the rising number of young entrepreneurs who were making a great fortune through tech industries. The 2018 race is a fierce one. Some of the participants include a 22-years-old Austin Russell who dropped out of Stanford University but is making an incredible contribution to vehicle manufacturing technology. Also in the competition are Marvin Gee and Leah Sibener who are working hard to break the record in by using the white blood cells to treat tumors.
The 30 under 30 nominees had different reasons for starting their businesses. 29% wanted to change the world through their company, over 50% are founders or co-founders, and 53% wanted to solve a given problem through their businesses. The honorees are also working to reduce the $1.4 trillion student loan by building homes and selling to teachers. The 20 industries that have been considered for 2018 competition include Science, Music, Media, Retail and E-commerce, Marketing & Advertising, Energy, Education, Art & Style, Enterprise Tech, Consumer Tech, Food and Drink, Finance, Sport and Venture Capital, Health Care, and Games. The 20 categories were appraised by 68 judges with expertise in different fields. Each group of judges had at least one alumni of the Forbes 30 under 30. Some of the previous honorees of 30 under 30 include Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Malala Yousafzai; a Nobel Prize winner, musicians Adele and Kendrick Lamar among others.
