Keith Mann is the founder and CEO of Dynamics Search Partners, an elite executive search firm that sources top talent for the private equity and hedge fund industries. With over 15 years of experience, Mann is an expert in compensation, hiring and staffing in the alternative investment industry, filling over 200 client mandates every year. He helps clients hire professionals in investment, marketing, and internal strategy. Typically, his clients are either interested in growing their existing teams or building out new platforms.
In a recent interview for IdeaMensch, Mann said Dynamics Search Partners spun out of the work he was performing for Dynamics Associates in New York. He enjoys being his own boss, which is something he always wanted. He remembers hating being a trading assistant for a large bank and learning early on he wanted to be independent.
Mann’s ideas stem from his clients’ needs, and diversity is one of the current trends that really excite him, enabling him to match the best candidate possible to every position that needs filling. He loves his job and learns from others every day. He recommends not shying away from asking for help nor from changing former decisions. If a candidate turns out not be a great fit, the issue can and should be swiftly corrected.
Mann’s typical day is filled with non-stop meetings, calls, and emails. He exercises before work, which helps him stay focused, efficient and productive.
Incorporating technology in everything his company does has been a great strategy that has helped Mann grow his business. An online portal for clients and candidates has transformed his company’s efficiency. He is a big fan of Google products as well as of LinkedIn, which in his field is of great use and importance.
Keith Mann recommends reading Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, has been greatly influenced by Michael Bloomberg and thinks the best $100 he recently spent was on a pizza-making class he took together with his children.
